Dear Christian Scholars and Apologists: the Ghost Inside You Is Not Real

People who believe that a ghost is their best friend, a best friend who fulfills their wish requests, heals them from illnesses, spares their lives in auto accidents, and communicates with them in a still, small voice will never stop believing in their invisible best friend due to historical evidence. Never. Their faith is not based on evidence.

These people will never stop believing in their ghost friend until the day they realize that no one is communicating with them in an inaudible voice; no one lives inside of them…except themselves..

  1. until the day they realize… Don’t hold your breath! People believe what they want to believe … especially when it comes to religion.

It’s actually rather sad that individuals must depend on this “ghostly voice” to manage their lives.

  2. Gary –

re: ”no one lives inside of them…except themselves”.

I know how very important scientific evidence is to you. So, could you please provide some links to scientific evidence of exactly what the “themself” is that lives inside a person? You’re saying “….EXCEPT themselves”. So, scientifically, what constitutes that “themself” that you say lives inside of them?

And, of course, I’d love some links to the scientific evidence that “no one [besides themselves] lives inside of them”?

I was really unaware that science had determined that (a) we actually have a “self” living in us, and (b) that there can’t be some other “self” living inside us.

So, I’ll be excited to get info about the science you’re referring to.

    1. Excellent question. Science views each human body as an individual, unique, organism. Each cell in that organism shares common features with all the other cells of that organism: DNA. Human bodies have been dissected and studied extensively. No other living beings have ever been found inside a human body. Therefore, since each of your cells is unique to you, you are the only being inside of your body.

      Thanks again for your question.

      1. But, what is this “you” that is supposedly “inside your body”? I mean, from what you’re saying in your previous response, there IS NO “YOU” – all there is IS your body?

So, what are you even talking about, Gary??? You’re saying two different things entirely.

Who is this “you” that is somehow “inside of you”???????

I don’t think you have the SLIGHTEST idea of what you’re talking about at all. I think you’re just making stuff up as you go. And anybody else can SEE that.

        1. You need to read some psychology and biology books. If you can’t understand what I’m talking about you are either uneducated or just being an ass.

I’m not going to play this game with you, FT. The only being inside your body, including your brain and the thinking processes that occur in that part of your body, is YOU. That is what biology, psychiatry, and psychology say. The idea that another person’s ghost(spirit) lives inside your body is a superstition. Superstitions are not reality.

          1. No, Gary. The fact of the matter is that if all you are is a brain and a body, there IS NO YOU.

YOU need to get with your own program. You’re a walking meat computer with a flapping mouthpiece, and THAT IS ALL. According you whatever sounds come out of your own flapping mouthpiece. But, it’s nothing but electrons zipping around your grey matter, setting off whatever “thoughts” they set off.

You don’t even understand your own belief system.

            1. Yes, I know this subject is very upsetting for evangelicals like yourself. You don’t want to talk about it. You instead attempt to change the subject.

Not going down your rabbit trail. Sorry.

Be careful. You are getting close to being banned…again.

            2. Why can’t YOU be the brain and the body that you are? Don’t forget about emergence and the fallacy of composition: water is only hydrogen and oxygen, but has many characteristics that neither hydrogen nor oxygen has, when they are combined in the right way.

This provides a model for our personalities to emerge out of our brain and our body. And, we don’t need to claim that that is precisely what’s happening in order to reject the idea that we can’t have what makes us US given just a body and a brain.

              1. You clearly said “…no one lives INSIDE of them…EXCEPT themselves..”

I’d suggest that you be far more CLEAR about what you MEAN. If you do NOT mean some kind of “self” that is commonly understood as a separate component from the physical body – like a spirit or soul or a survivable consciousness – then that’s totally fine with me.

But when you just start throwing out comments that appear to be very contradictory to the very philosophy you yourself hold, then you should EXPECT some push-back on it.

What I understand from YOUR position would be far better expressed by saying “there is no YOU inside of you, much less, anyone else inside of you”.

In saying “the only ‘you’ inside of you is ‘you'”, you’re leaving the door wide open for someone to say “how do you know that? How do you know that there’s not some random god or demon or something in here as well?” (which is what I was getting at in my first msg).

So, I’m just suggesting that you be a bit more careful in your wording of things, else, you can start a whole, unintended bunnytrail — just like this one we’ve been on.

                But, I’m getting off now.

                See you next time.

                1. I will bet that most readers understood that I was referring to one’s “ego”. In psychoanalytic theory the ego is another name for “self”. The ego is you; the voice in your head is you.

I suggest that evangelical Christians who believe that the Holy Spirit/spirit of Jesus speaks to them in an inaudible voice are only hearing themselves speaking to themselves inside their heads.

  3. Here are the two questions I believe every evangelical Christian should be asked:

1.) Does the resurrected Jesus communicate with you personally in any way, shape, or form?

2.) If one of your children believes that he (or she)has an invisible friend (not Jesus) who possesses supernatural powers, who (allegedly) tells your child what to do and what to say, what would you do or say to prove to your child that this invisible friend does not exist?
