The Doctrine of the Trinity: Christianity’s Mind-Boggling Invention to Rob the Jews of the Abrahamic Covenant

What does the Bible teach about the Trinity? – Rhemacovenant ...

Evangelical Christian: If there is a satisfactory analogy for the Trinity I’m unaware of it. Though surely flawed as well, here’s the best one I’ve heard: A person has one mind. That mind has three essential entities: intellect, will and memory. All three are necessary for the mind to be whole. One must have an intellect to be able to think, a will to want to think, and a memory of what one is thinking. The strength of this analogy is that it deals with abstract examples, as opposed to analogies that employ concrete components that are flawed because they are /too particular/. Abstract analogies like this one are better at describing distinctions that are better at remaining inextricably related to the whole. But again, it’s surely a flawed analogy too.

Fellow skeptic (with a little snark): I like to ask whether it is possible for the three “persons” of the Trinity to have a productive conversation one with another.

Gary: I believe that no analogy is necessary to describe the Doctrine of the Trinity. Simply present the Athanasian Creed to a lay Christian and ask him to read it. Before he starts reading, however, remind him that from the beginning of the second century to this very day, the Church consists almost entirely of Gentiles; Gentiles who desperately want to convince Jews that Yahweh has cursed them, removed his covenants with Abraham from them, and given them to the (Gentile) Church. But the early Church bishops had to convince the simpletons in the pew that adding Jesus and the Holy Spirit to the godhead of Yahweh did not constitute turning monotheistic Yahweh worship (Judaism) into polytheism. So they concocted the mind-boggling concept of “a Trinity“. One must turn himself into a pretzel to find a New Testament passage that clearly spells out a concept of three persons, but one God, other than the Johannine Commae, which is a known scribal alteration (fraud!):

Athanasian Creed (see Ecumenical Creeds, C): “… We worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither confounding the Persons nor dividing the Substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Spirit. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit is all one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal. Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Ghost. The Father uncreate, the Son uncreate, and the Holy Spirit uncreate. The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, and the Holy Spirit incomprehensible. The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit eternal. And yet they are not three Eternals, but one Eternal. As there are not three Uncreated nor three Incomprehensibles, but one Uncreated and one Incomprehensible.

So likewise the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Spirit almighty. And yet they are not three Almighties, but one Almighty. So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. And yet they are not three Gods, but one God. So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Spirit Lord. And yet not three Lords, but one Lord. For like as we are compelled by the Christian verity to acknowledge every Person by Himself to be God and Lord, so are we forbidden by the catholic religion to say, There be three Gods or three Lords. The Father is made of none, neither created nor begotten. The Son is of the Father alone, not made nor created, but begotten. The Holy Ghost is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created nor begotten, but proceeding.

So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits. And in this Trinity none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another; but the whole three Persons are coeternal together and coequal, so that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is to be worshiped.”

Sounds like a heresy to me.

In seriousness though, I would hold that no analogy is actually possible for the trinity because it requires one to accept that 1 = 3. To do so one must discard either the law of identity, or the law of non-contradiction. Christians hand wave away this problem by calling the trinity “a mystery” rather than flat accept the logical problem.

As you say Gary, it’s an entirely invented dogma because they needed to maintain the monotheistic roots (in order to be compatible with Judaism), yet allowed the freedom for a degree of polytheism at the same time. Pretty sure that monotheistic polytheism isn’t a thing.

  3. Gary,

I think there is a very logical, easy reason the confusing, bogus late Hellenistic/Greco-Roman concept versus Yeshua’s/Jesus’ much older Jewish theology/teaching of the 3 words: ‘El,’ ‘Elohim,’ and ‘Yhwh’ (Josh. 22:22) connote ONE and the same person, as one might say, King, Emperor, Augustus. All three mean one person/deity. Period. Stop.

But in addition to the above (intentional) convoluting and maligning of the Abrahamic Covenant are the further distortions by the various diverse authors, communities, contrasting agendas, and compositions below. Worst still are the dates of final composition, a time-span of WELL OVER a millenia about Homeland Jews (Yeshua’s people) and the Diaspora or Overseas Hellenist Jews! Forcing and cramming a millenia-plus of exiled and Homeland Jewish sects/teachings into a Greco-Roman philosophical concept called the Trinity or the Triune God was utterly ludicrous by Greek-born and Greek-speaking Gentiles of the Earliest Church Fathers! And ludicrous is putting it mildly Gary.

No wonder most of the modern world can’t and does not want to embrace or understand a Greek-Hellenist, ill-founded invention completely alien to any Jewish origins. The below 25 passages of the Greco-Roman New Testament canon—commonly cited as support for a Trinity God-head and usually only 3-4 passages from the Old Testament—demonstrate how asinine the invention truly had been. Look at the various authors, editors, and communities compiling oral traditions/testimonies some 40 to 120 years AFTER Yeshua’s/Jesus’ execution by the Romans…

    • 1 Corinthians 8:6; 12:4-6 (Paul authored)

    • 2 Corinthians 3:17; 13:14; 1:21-22 (Paul authored)

    • Colossians 2:9; 1:15-17 (Paul probably authored?)

    • Isaiah 9:6; 44:6 (Multiple authors/editors over 2-centuries later)

    • John 1:14; 10:30; 14:16-17; 14:9-11; 10:30-36 (Anonymous author(s) & Johannine commune)

    • Luke 1:35; 3:21-22 (Unnamed companion of Paul; very different theologies, many contradictions between Luke-Acts-Paul’s epistles)

    • Matthew 1:23; 28:19; 3:16-17 (Unnamed Jew vacillating between old & new Judaism)

    • Romans 14:17-18 (Paul authored)

    • Genesis 1:1-2 (Four different sources, various editors)

    • 1 John 5:7-8 (Johannine commune, various editors)

    • 1 Peter 1:1-2 (Contested; unknown, but definitely not a Galilean fisherman)

    • Ephesians 4:4-6 (Author uncertain)

    • Philippians 2:5-8 (Paul authored)

It deserves noting too Gary that Saul of Tarsus or Paul’s personal theology, NOT Yeshua’s/Jesus’, comprises the bulk of a Greco-Roman Trinity invention. Why? Simple answer: Paul was in all likelihood a Herodian Jew and from the school of Bet Shammai—a weird mystical (Kabbalah) school unpopular with 1st-century mainstream Jews. Hence, Paul’s severe problems with all Jews in Palestine-Syria, but warmly accepted by GREEK Gentiles. 😉

P.S. Apologies for this late entry/comment. But I felt it was an important addition to your recent series about a crazy Triune theology invented by Greeks, not Jews.

  4. Heck, I never had to do ANY real “research” to figure the Trinity was not a “Jewish Christian” idea. I mean, the Jews themselves never considered the Holy Spirit a “person”, by any means. Why Jewish Christians would suddenly decide the HS was a “person” after all makes no sense whatsoever. The HS being a “person” doesn’t explain anything, and what’s worse, it comes with it’s own set of complications.

    1. PcS,

I pretty much agree with this assessment of the Greco-Roman Trinity invention. However, using the phrase “Jewish Christian” can be very misleading and will add to further confusion to an already impossible Trinity labyrinth with no sane exit. Remove the word Jewish altogether. After all, Yeshua was a hard-line Jew that read and spoke Mishnaic Hebrew and Syro-Aramaic fluently, two very specialized languages that 99% of Greeks (if not all of them) could not speak, read, or halfway understand, including the first and earliest Church Fathers so revered by modern Christian Apologists. Kione Greek, the language of the entire New Testament canon, was most certainly NOT Yeshua’s native tongue and yet Christendom’s earliest extant copies are not in Yeshua’s two most spoken languages! Major problems there along with a near encyclopedia’s worth of other problems of the entire Greek New Testament.

Furthermore, by the late 3rd-century CE and on, Greco-Roman “Christian” Gentiles led by very Greco-Roman Church archbishops, bishops, and scribes indisputably wanted, pushed, and modified stories/testimonies of a strictly failed Jewish Rabbi-reformer (Yeshua) into a familiar, recognizable, Greek Gentile version (Apotheosis) of a Christ-Redeemer. Over 300-years of retro-fitting, retro-grading the stories finally broke most all ties to Homeland Sectarian Judaism to invent a NEW entirely irrational, mystical religion: Christology. And the Herodian Hellenistic Paul/Saul fit the bill perfectly. Today, everything about Yeshua’s true heritage, background, education, teachings, and reforms are essentially lost with only a few hints and scraps inside today’s Greek New Testament.

If I were explaining the authentic, full context historicity of Yeshua’s life inside Second Temple Sectarian Judaism/Messianism, and inside the oppressive Roman Empire’s governing policies, especially in their outer Provinces, it makes a lot more sense to keep Yeshua/Jesus strictly Homeland Jewish and totally separate from the bogus and hijacked erroneous Greco-Roman versions and inventions of him, most of all the hard Greco-Roman Trinity B.S. 😉
