Dear Conservative Christian: Your Personal Experiences are Not Sufficient Evidence for Me to Believe in the Resurrection

Gary:   Please provide good evidence that the resurrected corpse of Jesus of Nazareth is alive and performing supernatural acts in our world today.

Conservative Christian:  If the Biblical worldview is true, and if we have good reasons to accept it, then we have good reason to believe “the resurrected corpse of Jesus of Nazareth is alive and performing supernatural acts in our world today”.

So all we really need to do is confirm the truth of a Biblical worldview, and then it immediately follows (as a corollary) that Jesus is alive and performing supernatural acts in our world today.

And, there are many categories of evidence which jointly function to justify a Biblical worldview, including:

1. Personal experiences (answered prayers, “coincidences”, visions, out-of-body experiences, near-death experiences, after-death experiences, healings, etc.)
2. Testimonies of others’ personal experiences.
3. Evidence of prophecy.
4. Evidence of prescience.
5. Historicity of Biblical documents.
6. Historicity of distinct Biblical events.
7. The events pertaining to the life of Jesus.
8. The Gospel of Jesus.
9. The Apostolic teachings, experiences, and events.
10. The inadequacy of alternative worldviews.

So, we could discuss thousands of pages in millions of books, all the details here. I’m not sure where you are at….where you are coming from….what your experiences are…what your preconceived notions are….what your philosophical approach is…etc. So, I’m not sure what category best suits your needs or interests.  There is an ABUNDANT literature on these topics, written by Biblical scholars. You could easily study for yourself, and learn for yourself.

    1. Exactly. His response highlights why it is usually a waste of time to debate evidence with most Christians. The only evidence that really matters to them are the warm, fuzzy feelings “in their heart”.

  1. Gary:. Please provide good evidence that the single greatest claim made in the Bible is true.

All of Us:. Duh. Now, about that evidence…?

  2. Absolutely! Since personal experience means little. Think about it – your lack of personal experience means little, since it doesn’t line up with the facts of history.

M personal experience does line up with the facts of history. That’s what determines the validity of my experience.

  3. First, the mere fact that “Christianity™” is divided into eight (8) extremely GENERAL branches starting way back in 431 CE, none of which can ever be considered identical, is a neutral onlooker’s FIRST glaring problem: Why are there 8 different versions of Xianity? However, the reality of authentic, cumulative history of 4 BCE to 35 CE is that even Yeshua bar Yosef’s (Jesus’) Movement was fragmented, a sect, a variation of Judaism! Hence, his practices, teachings, and disciples were at odds with some 6-8 (minimum!) sects/variations of 1st-century Judaism!!!

Second, it all gets much worse after Jesus’ execution and more so after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem (70 CE) and the fall of Masada in 73-74 CE by Roman Legions! So more accurately from verified history, even during Jesus’ lifetime there was serious conflicts, disputes, and splits within his native Judaism, then it grew exponentially AFTER Jesus’ death!

Today, there are 33,000+ different denominations of “Christianity™” some of them so far apart as to what they believe is “God’s ultimate truth,” that a neutral onlooker gets completely baffled by all the ambiguity, contradictions, and divisiveness that if they were semi-sane they’d throw their hands in the air and call all of Christendom bogus, heretical, and go live a much happier life some other way!!! 😆 😉

    1. Therefore, because of the above 2,000+ year history of whatever Christianity is or is not… all the individual or groupings of Christian’s PERSONAL experiences about an unknown fable resurrection is that today there are 33,000+ “versions” of who and what Yeshua bar Yosef (Jesus) really was! Hahahahaha! Good luck with that! Even Sherlock Holmes would be utterly stumped. 😉 😛
