Answer: To so dazzle the world with a self-deprecating pope who washes the feet of the poor and makes compassionate, liberal-sounding (but non-binding) statements regarding women and gays in order to take the world’s attention away from the Roman Catholic Church’s massive world-wide sex abuse scandal involving hundreds if not thousands of pedophile priests and bishops.
Pope Francis’ ability to deflect the spotlight from these sick activities may be waning. His refusal to purge the Church of bishops who condoned or ignored these horrific crimes may be his undoing:

Frank’s job was to put the Catholic church in a good light to large numbers of moderate, and liberal Catholics, who the Church may have feared they were alienating. The facade has fallen off the walls, and the emperor still has no clothes.
