Don’t get me wrong. I think Pope Francis is a remarkable human being, and I sincerely hope that his visit to the United States this past week causes tens of thousands of Americans to be kinder and more giving to their less fortunate fellow citizens.
But I am a non-theist, after all. I am a man who believes that superstitions, in particular, religious superstitions, are bad for humankind. So I’m not heart-broken to see the pope fly back to Rome.
…And if I hear one more American television network reporter refer to the pope as “the Holy Father” or “His Holiness”…I’m going to lose it.
