The Pope gave liberals an early Christmas Present this week, on a flight back from Turkey…by drawing a parallel between Christian Fundamentalists and Islamic terror groups such as ISIS.
When a journalist attempted to draw the Pope into yet another condemnation of the world’s 2 billion Muslims on the basis of the actions of a few thousand – the pontiff dropped a logic bomb.
“You just can’t say that, just as you can’t say that all Christians are fundamentalists. We have our share of them (fundamentalists). All religions have these little groups,” Pope Francis said.
“It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Mr. Akin said of pregnancies from rape. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
Was it a Christian or Muslim fundamentalist news channel that put women on air to advise other women not to vote? Answer: Christian.
Fox News does this regularly, as in this October 2013 discussion of how married women tend to vote Republican and single women tend to vote Democratic:
“It’s the same reason why young women on juries are not a good idea. They don’t get it! They’re not in that same life experience of paying the bills, doing the mortgage, kids, community, crime, education, healthcare. They’re like healthy and hot and running around without a care in the world.”
Gary: The worst terrorist attacks in the United States (9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombings) were carried out by fundamentalist Muslims, but it is true, Christian fundamentalists have carried out targeted assassinations in this country which qualify as acts of terror. Regardless of your views on abortion, killing an abortion provider is murder.
The overwhelming majority of Christian fundamentalists are NOT terrorists, just as the majority of fundamentalist Muslims are not terrorists. They are good, law-abiding, kind people. But it is the mentality shared by both Muslim and Christian fundamentalists that is the danger: “If my God and my Holy Book say that killing is justified, it is justified.”
A fundamentalist Christian would never condone the targeted slaughter of children today in the name of the Christian god, but these same people will excuse the exact same barbaric behavior committed by the Christian god as described in the first half of their holy book. The targeted slaughter of children is NEVER justified. Never.
This is the danger of fundamentalism.
Religious fundamentalism causes sane people to commit insane acts. This is why all freedom-loving Americans must resist both the Islamization and the Christianization of our country. Keep religion, all religions, in their place. Support the complete separation of Church (Religion) and State.
