Sorry, folks. Christmas truce ended. The fundamentalist far right in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod is not observing any cessation of its war on law-abiding gay and lesbian Americans. While scanning LCMS websites today for hate speech, I came across this disgusting conversation on Pastor Larry Peters’ blog, Pastoral Meanderings. Pastor Peters is the LCMS pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Clarksville, TN.
How can Pastor Peters call himself an earthly representative of the loving and compassionate Jesus of Nazareth and allow this manner of hateful speech on his blog?

Citizens United Against Religious Hate Speech has targeted and is today “de-hooding” probably the most vocal, prolific, vicious, gay-bashing (and Catholic bashing) bigot within the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod: Richard Strickert of Austin Texas, an LCMS layperson, and self-appointed judge and jury of all “sinners”, except himself, of course. Dr. Strickert (a physicist by trade?) lurks on the internet using a pseudonym, otherwise knows as a fake name, to spew his hate speech. He calls himself, “Carl Vehse“…I refer to his vile, shameful, anonymous (hooded) online persona as…”Klansman Karl“.
Here is one of many LCMS blog posts identifying “Carl Vehse” as Richard Strickert of Austin, Texas: Carl Vehse is Richard Strickert. Even “Amsdorf”, aka LCMS pastor and official, Paul T. McCain, has publically identified Carl Vehse as Richard Strickert.
If one does a website search on Pastoral Meanderings, The Brothers of John the Steadfast, and Cranach, the Blog of Veith, and a several other LCMS blogs, on the term “homosexuality”, you will see vicious comment, after vicious comment posted by “Carl Vehse”, aka Klansman Karl. And more shocking and more disgusting is the almost complete lack of censure, condemnation, flagging, deleting of comments, or banishment of this vile man by the LCMS pastors who are authors and owners of these Christian blogs.
Let’s look at a typical example of “Klansman Karl” trashing another human being just because this person happens to have same-sex attractions (note this poor man is following the moral guidelines of the LCMS and is refraining from homosexual activity. But that is not good enough for Klansman Karl. Also note, as cold-hearted and uncaring as “Vehse’s” comments are, these comments are mild by comparison to his usual diatribes. Vehse almost always refers to gays as “sodomites” on the many LCMS blogs and websites upon which he lurks; in this particular instance, Klansman Karl is being merciful to this filthy “sodomite”!
Please note in the following discussion on Pastor Peter’s blog, Klansman Karl’s extensive use of the teachings of the founder of his religion, Jesus of Nazareth, as he directs compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and love to this anonymous, same-sex attracted–but-abstaining Christian commenter. (Also note Pastor Peter’s response to this conversation….I mean…total lack of response. What a sorry excuse for a “man of God”! Pastor Peters needs to hang his head in shame along with the entire LCMS. Jesus of Nazareth would never have allowed one of his disciples to degrade another human being in this manner).

I am a person who grew up attracted to other guys. I have chosen celibacy because the Bible is clear that to have sex outside of marriage to a woman would be a sin. So what do I get for trying to follow Christ?
Two weeks ago I was in a men’s Bible study at my LCMS church and one of the participants called homosexuals “cocksuckers.” A week later I was at meeting in which several LCMS pastors were present, one of whom said we should should solve the problem of homosexuality by lovingly shooting gays. No one objected.
The current fad solution in the LCMS for people like myself is that “a Christian does not identify himself by his sin but by his relationship in Christ so you should not see yourself as homosexual.” But no one ever thinks of taking that sentence apart: to identify one’s self in Christ is the essence of faith. (See Rev and those whose robes were washed in the blood of the Lamb, etc). So instead of the Gospel we are given decision theology. When beat down by the Law proclaimed so violently that a pastor would advocate shooting homosexuals, instead of being told God forgives us, we are told to “put our identity in Christ.”
In the LCMS the current “ministry to repentant homosexuals” is to preach the law, even with the advocating of killing them, only very grudging reference to Gospel and virtually no mention of the means of grace (just check out the evil little web site of John Steadfast if you want to see “the best in Lutheran theology where the Law is preached at its strongest and the Gospel is virtually absent”) and then we are told to separate ourselves from the condemnation of the Law by “putting our identity in Christ” (apparently we are to do this by our own efforts because I have never once heard a pastor include more than a tiny bit of very reluctant Gospel.)
And don’t try to point me to the Lutheran Witness issue on sexuality of a year ago. Of the five articles that included some Gospel, three reduced the gospel to sanctification, one was ok but talked more about what the gospel does than actually talking about what Christ did (a classic error) and the only one that actually had pretty decent Gospel was written to parents and friends of homosexuals.
Oh, and remember the BSA accepts boys who are openly gay but NOT SEXUALLY ACTIVE. Don’t let the guy who calls himself “Vehse” pull the wool over your eyes on that one.
In any case, the LCMS has made it clear by the consistent withholding of the Gospel to people such as myself that we are going to hell no matter how much we repent, no matter how we avoid sexual temptation and sin, and no matter how much we trust in Christ. God has put the keys of the kingdom into the hands of pastors and you have spoken, the welcome of the Church is to shoot us.

Ad hominems and unsubstantiated allegations against an unnamed (and therefore any) LCMS Bible study and pastors, a separate Lutheran website, the Lutheran Witness, and the LCMS in general, with the usual gospel-reductionist legalism. Are there any heterosexual Lutherans left unaccused?
Anony: “the Bible is clear that to have sex outside of marriage to a woman would be a sin.”
This sin also applies to single heterosexual men. Where there is a difference is that being openly heterosexual is not a sin, but being openly homosexual is, even if the homosexual does not physically engage in sexual intercourse outside of marriage to a woman.
Jesus pointed out that hatred of your brother is the same as murder, and lust in the heart is the same as actually committing adultery. One cannot claim that it is God’s will, and thus acceptable, to openly be a pyromaniac or kleptomaniac or homomaniac as long as it is simply in thoughts rather than words or deeds.
However Luther’s phrase of simul justus et peccator describes Christians who are repentant in all of these areas.
Is this our Peddler of Hate, Carl Vehse?: From The American Physics Society: “The clear winner in this category is Lanier, whose chemist ancestors go back 24 generations, but Sibener’s 22 generations qualified him for a close second. Gerver, with 19 generations in his primary lineage, placed third. Among the runners-up, Register and Rick Strickert of Radian International in Austin, Texas, each had 15 generations dating back to Christolphe Glaser, an MD in Basel, Switzerland, who is generally credited with the education of N. Lemery, a Paris apothecary in the late 1600s. Louis Grace of Livermore National Laboratory had 14 generations dating back to Lavoisier. George Snow of the University of Maryland deserves special mention for submitting the shortest possible lineage: his thesis advisor was Eugene Wigner – who won the 1963 Nobel Prize for mapping the structure of the atom and its nucleus – and Snow apparently felt no need to trace his heritage further.” And this?: From: “Strickert, Rick” <email@example.com>
Harold Lewis, Emeritus Professor of Physics, University of California, Santa
Barbara, and co-founder and former Chairman of JASON, submitted his letter of
resignation to Curtis G. Callan, Jr., President of the American Physical
Society (posted at
His reason? Excerpted from his letter:
"It is of course, the global warming scam, with the (literally) trillions of
dollars driving it, that has corrupted so many scientists, and has carried APS
before it like a rogue wave. It is the greatest and most successful
pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist. Anyone who
has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the
ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare. (Montford's book organizes the facts
very well.) I don't believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read
that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition
of the word scientist.
"So what has the APS, as an organization, done in the face of this challenge?
It has accepted the corruption as the norm, and gone along with it.
"....I want no part of it, so please accept my resignation."
In addition to the bull-in-the-china-shop issue of GW/CC, physics educators may
be asked by their students the question of how a scientist deals publicly with
a scientific position he holds when he knows it will receive strong (political)
As I recall, Galileo Galilei did have a problem with the authorities when he
adamantly took a scientific stand. Of course, Nicolas Copernicus was on his
deathbed when he finally had his heliocentric theory published. And Ole
Roemer's claim of the finite speed of light was never widely accepted until
well after his death.
Online comment regarding “Carl Vehse”: Weedon
It’s not quite true about Vehse. It’s a rather well-known moniker for Dr. Rick Strickert, a Lutheran layman (I believe a physicist) from Texas, whose father was a Lutheran pastor (and I think maybe his son is too?). He’s never been accused of lacking “guts to speak” under his own name before, I don’t think, for the “CarlVehse” readily identifies him (he’s enormously sympathetic to the original Vehse’s views – the layman lawyer who abandoned the Saxon experiment and returned to Germany) and shares his opinions quite openly on a number of Lutheran forums.
Gary: If anyone has a photo of Richard Strickert, aka, Carl Vehse, please post a link in the comments below. This bigot and peddler of hate needs FULL EXPOSURE. Also, does anyone know which LCMS church this hate-monger attends in Austin? His pastor and congregation need to be made aware of his hateful activities. If anyone in the LCMS needs to be forbidden the Holy Sacrament, it is this sorry excuse for a son-of-a-bitch.
